Express Your Creativity With a Christmas Door Decoration

With the Christmas season comes the chance to be especially creative in terms of decorations. Some people choose to decorate the outside of their home, while others choose to decorate the inside. Why not meet the inside and the outside halfway by decorating the front door of the home with a nice Christmas door decoration?

A Well loved Christmas Door Decoration

During the holidays, one cannot enter a store and not find some types of a Christmas door decoration for sale. For those that are not especially interested in arts and crafts, but still want to be able to have a nice Christmas door decoration, there are a variety of options.

The first and perhaps the most well loved types of Christmas door decoration is that of a Christmas wreath. These wreaths can be bought in small or quite large sizes, depending on how huge the front door is. Also, while one could buy a wreath that is fake and then save it for use year after year, another option is to buy a wreath made out of pine needles for a nice smell to greet one every time one walks through the door.

Another well loved Christmas door decoration is that of a single large bow with long ends. While traditionally this bow is made out of velvet ribbon and is a festive red in color, one can always buy wide ribbon from a craft store and construct one’s own from any pattern of ribbon that one likes.

An especially festive Christmas door decoration is a single strand of sleigh bells. These sleigh bells can be either silver or gold in color, and are generally attached to a leather belt which is then hung on the door. This is a fantastic decoration to have in a house with children, because each time someone walks through the front door, they can imagine that it is Santa Claus.

Of course, one does not always have to buy ready-made Christmas door decorations, because there is always the option of making one’s own. One thought is to place Christmas wrapping paper all over the front door and attaching a bow to make it look like a present.

Christmas door decorations and what it takes to make them can be found in any craft store or department store. One can also buy these decorations online, or visit various websites for more thoughts on how to make one’s own. Indeed, a Christmas door decoration is a fun and creative way to greet this special holiday.

Digging up That ancient Vintage Christmas Decoration

There are so many areas in which it is now considered appropriate, and even chic, to pull out things from the past (from the distant past) and use them as current fashion and decoration statements. The Advantages of an Outdoor Christmas Light Decoration

Perhaps one of your favorite Christmas movies is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation; it’s one of the all-time Christmas favorites. If you’re one who treasures this Christmas classic, you probably consider the thought of an outdoor Christmas light decoration as one of the most amusing parts of the film. The reasons for its hilarity are completely universal; anyone who’s struggled with a string of Christmas lights, whether that be an outdoor Christmas light decoration or not, knows just how absolutely maddening this decorative process can be.

Despite advancements in bulb technology that leave only the bulb that is dead out and the rest of the string on, outdoor lighting is an absolute no-no if you’re day is not off to an absolutely wonderful start. Similar to the disclaimer ‘Don’t try this at home’, an outdoor Christmas light decoration should only be set up by an adult, with a mind happily looking forward to the task at hand, and if you are already dreading it before you start, do yourself a favor and wait for tomorrow, this is not to be undertaken lightly.

Where to Start

It’s best to clearly envision what you want your outdoor lighting masterpiece to look like before you start. Reckon in terms of lines and colors

The Evolution of the Christmas Tree Decoration: How it all Came About

Nothing is quite as comparable to the joy experienced by a family getting together to delight in the Christmas holidays. Baking cookies together, watching that favorite traditional Christmas movie and, of course, trimming the tree.

For most families the Christmas tree decoration is retrieved from their yearly storage area and brought out immediately following Thanksgiving. The families that own an artificial tree generally show their tree straight away while those opting for a live tree shop for that special tree as soon as possible.

As the Christmas tree decoration boxes are unpacked many memories are experienced as each decoration has a special meaning or even represented that of a special Christmas memory. Christmas decorations such as the baby’s first Christmas or that ornament that has the kindergarten picture of your child or that special adornment to the tree that represents the like between you and that special someone.

The History of the Christmas Tree Decoration

Early day Christmas tree decorations were food items that adorned the trees. Some of these items included small pastries, apples, and other sweets. The tradition was to eat these Christmas tree decorations following the celebration of Christmas. Items that could not be eaten were eventually added to the mix. Tradition states that Martin Luther was the first individual to attach non-edible items by placing candles upon his Christmas tree.

As families immigrated to America they brought their traditional type of Christmas tree decoration with them. But, added to the mix of European food items were popcorn, cranberries and festively colored decorations. Eventually, adding to the items that helped to trim the tree, were glass ornaments that were made and popularized in Germany and eventually exported to other countries.

With the discovery of electricity in the latter part of the 19th century, it was a natural progression that electrical lighting would be a part of the Christmas tree decoration.

Christmas Tree Decorations Today

Christmas tree decorations of today have changed considerably. The ornaments are wonderfully decorated and highlighted with glimmering colors. Often the decorations are non-edible, but may sometimes reflect the original use and thought of trimming the tree with fruit and candy. For example candy canes may hang from the branch of a tree. But, these candy canes are not real, but merely an artificial representation that is outlined with lights. These artificial candy canes add to the decorative mix.

The lights, as part of the Christmas tree decoration now twinkle as well as giving the appearance of moving or running around the tree.

Despite the fact that the Christmas tree decorations of today have changed in style and the materials used, the one simple fact remains. That fact is that Christmas tree decorations are still an integral part of the Christmas holiday that symbolizes and reflects the family’s celebration of their faith.
